The latest two days of CES

Samsung press conference:

The first thing that happened today, except the fact that I still couldn’t upload pictures through the internet at Hooters was that I went to the Samsung press conference. Alot of exciting news there, but there was a few things that really struck me. The first one is their work together with Yahoo, TV through the internet. You could customize it the way you want to acess specific features. The only thing im wondering about it is when we get to see it in Europé, Sweden. To often I’ve features or services that works well in both America and Europé often stay in one region and does not cross th pond.

They have a new wireless syncronization ,which allows you to take your information with you everywhere in your house. They had a nice demonstration showing you how the system worked. Personally I think that it’s an excellent way of showing how the different parts of Samsung works together under one roof.

Their new television systems and blueray player looked amazing ( I’ve never had a blueray player so I can’t really tell how it looked). Their blueray player had two distinct features. It has a builtin stand or if you want to go the extra mile you have the option of hanging it to the wall. The television systems was impressive. Definitely something that I could personally think of using. You could hang it on the wall if you want and withdraw it from the wall to get it in different positions.

Samsung showed of the haptic feedback systems that they use on their devices. Suddenly we all heared a big buzz and nobody really understood where it came from. The second time around it didn’t surprise that much. They also showed of the widget system that you have in devices such as the Omnia. You can customise it the way you want, you can have a big clock in front of you if you want or pictures of the peson that you want to call. What impressed me the most on this part was that when the showed us their widget system you didn’t work in the Windows Mobile interface but in Samsungs own widget interface.

We also had the oppertunity to be shown their new mediaplayer systems. If you can integrate their mediaplayer solution with your home media system I could see it becoming a big contender. The schwag of the day was a small mp3 player with 2GB of built in memory. I’ve not yet openend the box but what I can tell from the outside is that it looks decent and hopefully works well. Im looking forward to trying it with the different pair of headphones that I’ve got with me. The first ones that I will try it with will most probably be the C-Jays from Jays. An amazing pair of headphones that covers almost all the surrounding sound. I used these headphones on my 15 hour trip over to the US and they practically were a lifesaver. With everybody around me sleeping and talking I could watch episodes of 24 season 5 with minimum disturbance form my fellow passengers.

I’ve not yet talked about how the LG X110 have worked for me under my geek trip. I’ve had trouble with WLAN and LAN connections but on the positive side it has an excellent keyboard to type with, the extra inch in screen size compared to my Acer Aspire One 150 is really nice and how well it works with different utilities such as Office, Photoshop, Firefox and much more. It’s really a system to count on. The possibilites that you get with a machine such as the X110 for me feels endless.

I have also obtained a Palm Treo Pro. Even with all the criticism Palm got for switching the Treo form factor from the old one to this one I personally think that they made the correct choice because it gives much more potential.

It’s going to be an exciting week. Im looking forward to hearing more about Windows 7 and much more.

Steve Ballmer started out by talking about Windows 7 and that the beta will be released tomorrow. It’s definitly exciting see so much work done by microsoft.  This really feels like it is what Vista should have been in the beginning.  He also talked about Windows Live Essentials and what you can do with it. He also said that Dell will be onof the first ones to install it on their new computers.  As long as they give users an easy way of removing the software im all for it. Im a firm believer of the fact that everybody should be able to customize their pc:s and if this happens im all for it.

They showed of Internet Explorer Mobile 6 for Windows Mobile. Mentioned simply that it will come later this year. THey showed it of on the

We also got to hear more about other options such as the sync system for Ford and that they are releasing a new version 2.0. Later on several different persons came in and showed us how different keyfeatures for Windows 7 have worked.  Im positive for and think that Microsoft have a winner here.

Day 1 of CES:

First I went to the Sands and had a meeting with Coolit. Amazing products,  among all the products they showed me their new Domino product. It truly looked like an exciting product for me. They also promised a review unit. Expect a review in a couple of weeks.I’ve never before really tried out cooling products and look forward to trying this out. Certainly an interesting product that I can’t wait to use.

After that I stopped by the CES shop bought myself a jacket  and a shirt. Amazing quality and great prices.

Next step was of to the South Hall and see MSI and hear more about their WInd products.  They showed me several new version but the one that I like the most was their Hybrid version.  A unit that has both an SSD and Harddrive inside of it. An  acessory that I really liked was the 9 cell hour battery. I liked the fact that you could with this unit get between 8 – 10 hours of batterylife.

When this meeting was finished it was time to stop by the Sandisk pressconference. While on my way over there I stopped by the pressroom and got myself free lunch. Always  nice with a free chicken wrap:-) Sandisk had a great pressconference. We got to hear more about their new SSD and the slotmusic players. Finally an SSD that’s affordable. Can anybody more say SSD in a netbook?:-) Im really interested in trying out their slotmusic player since that’s something that yet has arrived in Sweden.

I got to testdrive a Fiat 500 abath in a simulator. It had enough horsepowers for me. We got to see the streets on a small screen. It was a little difficult testdriving it. I got my score on a usb memorystick and plan on examining it on my netbook. Do you want to see my results?  Amazing experience and I got to see the new Ford Mustang 09.

After this it was time for walking around the show and seeing amazing products, it was exciting to see the Motorola Attila at the Windows Mobile booth, Windows 7 keyfeatures, showing of how a Zune and how you can play the video on a bigger screen.

Among the coolest products I’ve seen has to be the Magicjack. For 20 US Dollar you can call every number in the US without worrying about your phonebill. I’ve got a unit and plan on testing it fully.

That’s it for todays report. Tomorrow it’s of to meetings with Sandisk, ALK and HP. Exciting days coming up.
