Two weeks update with my HP DM3

Two weeks update with my HP DM3

I have been using my HP DM3 for the last couple of weeks and have enjoyed the experience.  Compared to the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T that I have also this one feels much more better.  The hardware works and I have not experienced  any hardware errors with my DM3 so far.

The keyboard on the DM3 was though getting used to in the beginning but now it feels much more better. The space between the keys on the keyboard felt a little weird in the beginning, but now I like it. It is tough to accidentally press two keys at once instead I can sit there writing for a couple of hours at a time without having to notice that I have not gotten plenty of spelling errors. Perhaps a nice marketing way for HP with the DM3?

About battery life. I have gotten around 3 hours of battery life with it, not as good as the 6 hours that I had with the Acer… As a plan for this I am getting an additional spare battery in the future. One thing that I want with the DM3 is an extended battery.

One cool thing that I have done with it is connecting to my Samsung SGH B7330 over Bluetooth. Even though I have a mobile broadband USB modem I want this option to see how well it works together.  I have been connected through Bluetooth an hour and a half total and I still had a 30 percent battery left on my device. This was with Spotify running in the background, using both Microsoft Word and Powerpoint and Firefox.

There is still one pet peeve about Internet Explorer 64 bit and that is that there is no Flash for it. It is a pain that a pop up tells me that I have to install Flash to  properly display everything.  I do not know how to be angry on here. One thing I do know is that Microsoft have to make certain that there will be Flash for 64 Bit Windows 7 if they want more adoption of  64 Bit Windows 7 they have to make certain that there is compatible software out there for it.

If we instead look at other perspectives such as stability it is super stable. I have been using it clearly for 14 hours straight five days in a row and not once have it locked up on me or rebooted right in the middle of my work process. That is the type of thing that could happen easily with my Acer but not once with my DM3.

I have tried the HDMI port on my device by connecting it to one of my spare monitors and it worked really well. I have not seen that good of picture quality before on one of my device when I have connected it to my monitor.

I really enjoy this laptop. With all the tech purchases that I have made this is the one that I love that I have made because it works all the time.

Pocket Now shows us Swype

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Over at Pocket Now they have recorded an video about using Swype on the HD2. One thing that I am always on the look otu for on my mobile devices is a good software keyboard. Compared to the default Windows Phones keyboard this one looks like a real winner. Have you tried it? If so what is your opinion?

The Unwired shows us the difference between SIM and Micro SIM card

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Arne over at The Unwired went to Mobile World Congress and meet up with manufacturers of Micro SIM card. With the recent announcement of the iPad we have seen alot of buzz about these cards.

SIM cards store network specific information used to authenticate and identify subscribers on the Network. The most important of these are the ICC-ID, IMSI, Authentication Key (Ki), Local Area Identity (LAI) and Operator-Specific Emergency Number. The SIM also stores other carrier specific data such as the SMSC (Short Message Service Center) number, Service Provider Name (SPN), Service Dialing Numbers (SDN), Advice-Of-Charge parameters and Value Added Service (VAS) applications (all this is specified in the GSM 11.11). Furthermore, each SIM is internationally identified by its ICC-ID. ICC-IDs are stored in the SIM cards and are also engraved or printed on the SIM card body during a process called personalization. Last but not least, SIM cards are identified on their individual operator networks by holding a unique IMSI. Mobile operators connect mobile phone calls and communicate with their SIM cards using their IMSI.
