Review SBSH GoNews for Android

Monday, May 31st, 2010

I have for the last two weeks playing with SBSH GoNews for Android. SBSH describes it as following:

Free news reader application that brings news directly to your Android phone! GoNews aggregates news from any web-site based on your configuration, making it available even when offline! All news is organized and optimized for use with mobile devices. Including articles with images, reading color schemes, RSS/Full text articles and much more! Best of all – GoNews is available for free!

I have used it on plenty of mobile devices for the last two weeks. Ranging from my X10 Xperia to my X10 Mini. It is availible for free on the Android Marketplace.  Basically it allows you to sync your RSS Feed onto your mobile device. What is cool about GoNews is that you have recommendation on different feeds that you can pick from, but you can also add your own. Let me know if you want Swedish Tech Report’s feed included:-)

This is the list of devices that I have used it on:

  1. HTC Legend
  2. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
  3. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini

So far it has really exceded my expectations. On all of these three devices it has been superstable.  So far updating my feeds manually has worked without a hitch. It is when I have tried to update my feeds automatically which has not worked. Although to be honst I have not found it to be that big of an issue since it does not that much of batterylife.

Articles are presented in fullscreen mode so that you can view them directly and read the full contect. These articles are cached so that if you are on a plane you can view them in offline mode.

It works just as described and is now my main RSS reader for Android. I would like to see an option where you pay not to see the ads alll the time. That would be worth paying 5 or 10 US Dollar for me:-)  The secodn thign that I have found is where is the Swedish Tech Report RSS feed in the technology category:-) From what I can see in an upcoming update they will release syncing capability with Google Reader:-)

When I first installed it onto my X10 Mini I had at first expected to see some sort of compability issue with the screen, but to be honest it looks suprisingly good when I am using GoNews.. It is suprisingly easy to read it on such a small screen.

I am sticking with GoNews because it is a good software utility right now for my mobile device. When they release syncing capability with other online services I know that they will have an awesome software utility on their hands.

If you are looking for a software utility that helps you read RSS on your mobile device I would recommend installing GoNews.

Screenshots courtesy of SBSH since I am trying to find the correct drivers for my X10 to be able to take screenshots.

Thinking about something that I may need to do….

Monday, May 31st, 2010

I have been pondering something that I know that I have do. Start training.. Either running or walking in a quick pace. Setting out a goal that I need to do and finish it. I know that I can use my iPhone and Android devices while running but I do not want my phone with me while running. My current weight is… gulp …  110 KG.. I am thinking of losing 10 KG, something that I know that I will personally benefit from.To do this I am wanting to get an iPod Touch.  Using either the Runkeeper or the C25K application to see and document my development over the summer.

Personally I could really benefit from using this..

Early impressions of the X10 Mini

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

So for the last 48 hours I have been playing with one of the new and probably the hottest device from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X10 Mini..  It is the sibling to the already released X10. Even with such a small screen it is really enjoyable to use the device.  Using news Android applications is suprisingy easy with this device. I thought that these devices would not be that exciting to use since it is that small and that would brreak alot of the current applications that are out there at the moment. One of my favorite Android applications are Aftonbladet (Swedish newspaper) Supernytt which gives you the latest news at the moment here in Sweden and it worked directly. Surpisngly good to read on also…

One thing that I thought about switching shells was that it would be what you would call it not particulary exciting since it feels like you are 10 years old and still in middle school.. The times when I used a Nokia 3210… It is suprisingly fun to open up these packages. In the picture above you can see the different colors availible for the users.  It is a perfect mood switcher:-)

If you are a big fan of 3.5 mm headphone jack type of devices you will be happy to know that this device actually has it and still manages to keep the size down:-) On top that you have the regular Sony Ericsson jack also, so that you are also able to use the regular Sony Ericsson type of headphones. Cool:-)  The camera gives suprisingly good pictures.. I have found it to be really nice. Both in indoors and outdoors condition.  Separate post on this portion coming soon:-)

I would have expected the builtin battery to give me issues but to be honest it works really nice. Even with a couple of email accounts checking email in the background and twitter and facebook updating every fifteen minutes it lasts the whole day. Personally the battery has lasted me much better then what I would have expected.

The fact it runs on Android 1.6 (Donut) is not that big of an issue for me.  It works really nice.  The updated interface that it has compared to the X10 is much more enjoyable.. I wish that they would include these ype of shortcuts on the X10 really improves my usage.  It would be even cooler if I COULD have these types of shortcuts on the X10 also. Something that I think that it would benefit from also…

What I do like about the X10 Mini is it’s T9 keyboard. It is really nice to use and has a perfect fit to it’s screen, but the thing that I am missing is the dictionary. It feels like it is missing a couple of words.

Hope you have enjoyed this post. I will have more to share as I have played with the device more.

Review Antec Notebook Cooler Basic

Review Antec Notebook Cooler Basic

I have been playing with one of Antec:s latest notebook coooler devices for the last couple of weeks. It has truly been an interesting experience. At first I was a little skeptical since my first thought was how can this improve the usage with my dm3? Especially since I have found that it does work good all the time when playing games such as Modern Warfare 2. One thing is for certain about my HP dm3 is that it can get warm around certain areas when playing both BF2 and MW2. So naturally when playing on my dm3 it does get warm. When I applied using my notebook cooler basic to this situation I found that the usage has much improved compared to otherwise.

When I applied my Antec notebook cooler basic I have found that the heat that I previously experienced when playing games is no longer there. It is much more enjoyable doing this then before. One thing is for certain this is the accessory that is supposed to ship with the dm3 since it is multimedia computer that is great for gaming.

The notebook cooler is made of metal, with small holes that allows the ventilation to flow through…. It puts your laptop in a 45 degree angle which does not only allow you to better play games, but also use your laptop more comfortably. I have been sitting there for hours writing a paper and found that it actually is more comfortable using this all of the time. One thing is for certain, when I am sitting in front of my desk I have found that I use it more and more. It feels much more comfortable using this more and more.

What is cool about this one is that you can easily fold it together. When travelling you can easier store this in your bag or in your backpack…. In fact I have once carried it to a Lan Party and found the experience to be really nice.

Heck I have even tried it with my netbook just to see how well it looked… It looks surprisingly good. This one also works much better then what I would have expected. It might not be the solution that you would perhaps expect to see when using your netbook since they at the moment do not have that gaming capability. As I said earlier it does look really good together toughJ

Conclusion: This is a cooler that I really enjoy using. What have surprised me about it is that it is so cool to carry with me all the time. It is actually an accessory that surprised me on how much I do actually use it. Go ahead and get yours over at Antec.com
